What is a Doula?
A doula is typically someone who offers emotional and practical support to a woman throughout pregnancy, birth and postnatal period. Based on the capacity within which I personally work and have experienced, this is a fairly blanket explanation and the way in which this comes into fruition is a completely unique, individualised process for everyone. I'm interested in working collaboratively with you to explore how I can best help YOU, taking into consideration all of your personal and cultural needs.
What are you qualifications?
I trained with Perth based doula, Gabrielle Targett from A Labour of Love in 2016. I have completed additional training with Spinning Babies, Birth Cartographer training with Catherine Bell, Rethinking Trauma with Fiona Rogerson and Newborn Mothers. I am currently studying a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Community Development. I am a motivated, curious learner of all things. As such, I will forever be partaking in further education and professional development, increasing and updating my knowledge and skills, to offer more to those I work with. I have previously worked as a Support Worker, Education Assistant and in corporate administration - so “support”, in its many facets, is a skillset I have honed.
Where are you located?
I am based in Rockingham, Western Australia and happily work with families residing throughout the southern suburbs of Perth.
When will you reach my side during labour?
This varies between people and circumstances. Generally, I will aim to reach you when you are in established/active labour. This is to ensure that I am with you when you will most benefit from my assistance and I can remain with you for the duration of the labour and birth. This will be discussed in more detail, with a personalised action plan formulated during our meetings.
How many clients do you take on at any one time?
I work with one birth client per month. This reduces the risk of overlapping births and allows me to offer the absolute best of myself to those I work with.
