Hello! My name is Kylie.
I live by the gorgeous beaches of Whadjuk/Pindjarup Noongar Boodjar - Rockingham, Western Australia with my precious family.
I am a doula, mother, student of Sociology & Community Development and a devotee to the power of creativity and connection. I am a long time campaigner for the far reaching impact the birth and perinatal experience can have. I am an advocate for the neccessity of individualised, emotionally and psychologically sensitive, socially and culturally respectful support in maternity care.
I approached my first pregnancy with confidence and joy, determined to lean into the experience entirely and trust my body to do what it was made to do. I just knew that there was magic in pregnancy and birth, and I wanted in.
As all those who have gone before and since me well know, it is rarely that straighforward, even if it should be. Through three births and babies I was educated, I was well supported (for the most part), there were absolutely moments of utter magic and yet, there were many moments of disenfranchisment which infiltrated my perception of myself and, in turn, my capacity to mother. I felt completely disenchanted by the glaring gaps in mainstream maternal care and motivated to contribe to filling them in a beneficial way.
What started as an intrinsic reverence for birth and babies, has organically evolved into a mission to consciously tend to the unnoticed and unmet needs of those navigating the perinatal space.
I want to see women being respected, supported and celebrated, during what may be the most powerful and vulnerable rite of passage in their lives. Healthy babies and healthy communities are dependent on healthy parents. Where the focus of maternal health care is often only on the physical health (read: alive), we desperately need to see a shift in attitudes and practices in this space, where emotional and mental health are given the priority they deserve. Together, let’s shift the birth objective from alive, to thrive.
I'm overjoyed that you have found your way here to me today and incredibly grateful you have taken the time to read my words this far! I truly look forward to supporting and working with you, as you prepare for all the transformations this journey will unveil.
“The birth of our first born was rather traumatic and the things that happened made us feel scared and out of control. So when we came across Kylie in the second pregnancy it was a no brainer. She got us both in to a positive frame of mind and helped us to put the bad memories behind us and get excited about the birth of our second child.
When labor started we were both ready and Kylie was right there with us and made us feel calm and in control.
The birth didn’t quite end as we had planned but this time it was all our choices. Every step of the way Kylie made sure we were informed to make the right decision and the birth of our second is a happy memory.
It was such a comfort having her there and we truly can’t recommend her enough.”
